The Graphite Design Tour AD AD-85 iron is a carbon shaft that boasts performance exceeding steel shafts, delivering high performance in iron shots. Maximizing the freedom of carbon material design, it offers high rigidity and stability while remaining lightweight. With a balance point set at 46%, similar to the AD-75, it features a high trajectory design that emphasizes ease of swing. This design achieves high distance and accuracy, significantly improving iron shot performance. It is an ideal choice, especially for golfers seeking consistent distance and excellent directionality. With the Tour AD AD-85, enhance the quality of your iron shots and experience improved precision.
An "iron combo set" simply means a club setting that combines different iron models within a single set.
In the past, it was common to have "the same model from 5-iron to PW," but in recent years, among tour pros, a differentiation has become mainstream:
"Easy-to-hit long to mid-irons, and short-irons focused on operability."
1. Why are "combo sets" popular?
There are two main reasons.
They are "the evolution of ball performance" and "changes in green conditions."
Increased difficulty of long irons
Modern golf balls have evolved to suppress spin to enhance distance performance.
As a result, with conventional muscle-back (01 series) long irons, even with a pro's head speed, it has become increasingly difficult for the ball to get airborne and for it to stop on the green due to insufficient spin.
Shift in role from "hitting far" to "stopping"
For pros, long irons (4-5 iron) are not just for gaining distance.
They are clubs for aiming at the pin with a high trajectory and stopping firmly on the green.
Therefore, for long to mid-irons,
there's a growing trend of combining highly forgiving models with thick sole designs or hollow structures.
2. What combos are recommended if you use PRGR?
PRGR's 01-02 series is actually a lineup that makes combo settings very easy to assemble.
Classic Athlete Combo: 01 × 02
・4-6 iron: 02 IRON (easy to hit high and far)
・7-iron to PW: 01 IRON (emphasis on operability and feel)
Points
Since the 7-iron of the 01 (loft 32°) is combined with the 6-iron of the 02 (28°),
the loft progression is natural, and there's little difference in feel, allowing for a comfortable combo setting.
