Brand Story
If there are 100 players, 100 different shafts are needed.
That is Fujikura's fitting philosophy.
Fujikura Rubber Industries, Ltd. (Fujikura) was founded in 1901. Starting from manufacturing rubber products, they began manufacturing carbon shafts for golf in 1974. Fujikura's main shaft is the "Speeder" series, and in particular, the "Speeder EVOLUTION" series, which began sales in 2014, has become a very popular shaft that boasts a top share in the domestic women's tour for the past few years, achieving the No. 1 usage rate in the 2014 season. In the men's tour as well, with the introduction of the "Speeder EVOLUTION," the reputation has been excellent, with winners emerging. It has become a presence that even players who previously showed no interest are now paying attention to.
Features of "TRAVIL Iron"
・Introducing a new iron shaft that focuses on the landing angle, a necessary element for stopping the ball where you aim.
Through repeated testing by numerous tour professionals, we have been able to commercialize a product with high levels of both landing angle and feel.
By compositing carbon, metal, and rubber, we precisely control the smooth feel and snap back.
Achieve a trajectory that allows you to aim from a higher position.
・The landing angle is an important factor for stopping the ball where you aim.
It is one of the factors that has become clear with the spread of launch monitors in recent years, in addition to spin rate and launch angle.
Tour professionals emphasize the landing angle in shots aimed at the green.
What kind of shaft is needed to aim from a higher position?
That's where the development of TRAVIL began.
・Through repeated tests at tournament venues with many domestic male and female tour players, we narrowed down from over 30 types of prototypes.
Compared to their current clubs, the ones that achieved an average of 1.1 degrees more landing angle and had the best feel were commercialized.
・Adopting Tour Ability Structure, while suppressing rigidity at the grip end, the tip is made highly rigid. The shaft's tenacity enhances head control, and a gentle angle of attack leads to the birth of a shaft that can "aim for the green and stop the ball."
An "iron combo set" simply means a setting that combines different models of irons within one set.
In the past, it was common to "have the same model from 5-iron to PW," but in recent years, even among tour professionals,
"Long to mid irons for ease, short irons for emphasis on control"
This differentiation of use has become mainstream.
1. Why is the "combo set" trending?
There are two main reasons.
These are "evolution of ball performance" and "changes in green environment."
Increased difficulty of long irons
Modern golf balls are evolving in a direction that suppresses spin to enhance distance performance.
Therefore, with conventional muscle-back (01 series) long irons, even with a professional's head speed, it is becoming more common for the ball to not get airborne easily, and for insufficient spin to make it difficult to stop on the green.
Role change from "distance" to "stopping"
For professionals, long irons (4-5 iron) are not just clubs for gaining distance.
They are clubs for aiming at the pin with a high trajectory and stopping the ball firmly on the green.
Therefore, for long to mid irons,
Settings that combine highly forgiving models with thicker sole designs and hollow structures are becoming more common.
2. If combining with PRGR? Recommended combo
PRGR's 01-02 series is actually a lineup where combo settings are very easy to assemble.
Classic Athlete Combo: 01 × 02
・4-6 iron: 02 IRON (easy to hit for high trajectory and distance)
・7-iron to PW: 01 IRON (emphasis on control and feel)
Point
Since the flow is to combine the 02's 6-iron (28°) with the 01's 7-iron (32°),
A natural loft progression and minimal difference in feel allow for a comfortable combo setting.
