Brand Story
If there are 100 players, 100 different shafts are needed.
That is Fujikura's fitting philosophy.
Fujikura Rubber Industries, Ltd. (Fujikura) was founded in 1901. Starting with the manufacture of rubber products, the company began manufacturing carbon shafts for golf in 1974. The main line of Fujikura shafts is the "Speeder" series. In particular, the "Speeder EVOLUTION" series, launched in 2014, has become extremely popular, boasting the top share in the domestic women's tour for several years, and achieving the number one usage rate in the 2014 season. In the men's tour as well, the "Speeder Evolution" received excellent reviews, with winners emerging after its introduction. It has now attracted attention from players who previously showed no interest.
Features of "TRAVIL Iron"
・Introducing a new iron shaft that focuses on the landing angle, an essential element for stopping the ball where you aim.
After repeated testing by numerous tour professionals, we were able to commercialize a product with a high level of landing angle and feel.
By compositing carbon, metal, and rubber, we precisely control a smooth feel and flex return.
Achieve a trajectory that allows you to aim from a higher position.
・The landing angle is a crucial factor for stopping the ball where you aim.
In addition to spin rate and launch angle, it is one of the factors that have become clear with the spread of trajectory measurement devices in recent years.
Tour pros prioritize the landing angle when hitting shots aimed at the green.
What kind of shaft is needed to aim from a higher position?
That's where the development of TRAVIL began.
・After repeated testing at tournament venues with many male and female domestic tour players, we narrowed down the selection from over 30 types of prototypes.
Compared to the clubs used, the average landing angle increased by 1.1 degrees, and the one with the best feel was commercialized.
・Adopting Tour Ability Structure, while suppressing the rigidity at the grip end, the tip is made highly rigid. The shaft's tenacity enhances head controllability, and with a gentle angle of attack, a shaft that "aims for the green and stops the ball" is born.
An "iron combo set" simply refers to a setup that combines different models of irons within a single set.
In the past, it was common to "match the same model from 5-iron to PW," but in recent years, it has become mainstream even among tour professionals to use a combination of:
"Long to mid-irons for ease of use, and short irons for operability."
1. Why are "combo sets" trending?
There are two main reasons.
They are "the evolution of ball performance" and "changes in green conditions."
Increased difficulty of long irons
Modern golf balls have evolved to suppress spin to enhance distance performance.
As a result, with conventional muscle-back (01 series) long irons, even with a professional's head speed, it's becoming harder for the ball to get airborne and more cases where insufficient spin makes it difficult to stop the ball on the green.
Role change from "distance" to "stopping"
For professionals, long irons (4-5 iron) are not merely clubs for gaining distance.
They are clubs for aiming at the pin with a high trajectory and firmly stopping the ball on the green.
Therefore, there is an increasing trend to combine long to mid-irons with highly forgiving models that feature thicker sole designs or hollow structures.
2. If you're building with PRGR? Recommended Combos
PRGR's 01-02 series is actually a lineup that makes building combo setups very easy.
Classic Athlete Combo: 01 x 02
・4-6 iron: 02 IRON (High trajectory for easy distance)
・7 iron-PW: 01 IRON (Prioritizes operability and feel)
Key Point
Since the flow is to combine the 02 6-iron (28°) with the 01 7-iron (32°),
The loft progression is natural, and a combo setup with minimal difference in feel and no discomfort is possible.
