In the past, it was common to "match the same model from 5-iron to PW," but in recent years, even among tour pros,
the mainstream approach has become "easier long to mid-irons, and control-focused short irons."
1. Why is the "combo set" trending?
There are two main reasons.
These are "the evolution of ball performance" and "changes in green conditions."
Increased difficulty of long irons
Modern golf balls are evolving in a direction that suppresses spin to enhance distance performance.
