This is the second installment in the Lifelong Steel series.
It's a steel shaft that uses the new material "NZNS60," developed over two years, combining great flexibility with lightness.
It has increased weight compared to the first installment, "Zelos 7," and is designed for more active, athlete-oriented seniors, as well as women professionals and competitive female amateurs.
While maintaining the distance performance created by its great flexibility, it allows players to attack the pin more aggressively.
Simply put, an "iron combo set" is a setup that combines different iron models within a single set.
In the past, it was common to use the same model from 5-iron to pitching wedge, but recently, among tour pros,
"Easy to hit for long to mid irons, and emphasis on workability for short irons"
has become the mainstream approach.
1. Why are "combo sets" gaining popularity?
There are two main reasons for this:
They are "the evolution of ball performance" and "changes in green conditions."
Increased difficulty of long irons
Modern golf balls are evolving to reduce spin to enhance distance performance.
As a result, with conventional muscle-back (01 series) long irons, even with a professional's head speed, it has become harder for the ball to get airborne, and there are more cases where insufficient spin makes it difficult to stop the ball on the green.
Role change from "hitting far" to "stopping"
For professionals, long irons (4-5 iron) are not just about gaining distance.
They are clubs for attacking the pin with a high trajectory and stopping the ball firmly on the green.
Therefore, there's an increasing trend to combine highly forgiving models for long to mid irons, featuring designs with thicker soles or hollow structures.
2. What if you combine with PRGR? Recommended Combos
The PRGR 01-02 series is actually a lineup that makes it very easy to create combo setups.
Classic Athlete Combo: 01 x 02
・4-6 iron: 02 IRON (high launch for easy distance)
・7 iron-PW: 01 IRON (emphasis on workability and feel)
Key points
Since the 7-iron of the 01 series (loft 32°) is combined with the 6-iron of the 02 series (28°),
the loft progression is natural, and there's little difference in feel, allowing for a comfortable combo setup.
