The TRUE TEMPER RIFLE PROJECT X is an iron shaft designed with an optimal taper angle calculated to maximize energy transfer for each club number. This precision-engineered performance has been proven effective by many PGA Tour winners. By varying the shaft's taper angle for each club number, it optimizes energy transfer to the ball, providing superior performance to players.
With a focus on control performance, it employs a "butt-side stiff" design, making it a weighty shaft ideal for professional golfers and top amateurs. This high-performance shaft can meet a wide range of needs, from precise shots by professionals to hard hitters.
Recommended head speeds are as follows:
7.0 flex: 50m/s+
6.5 flex: 48-54m/s
6.0 flex: 46-52m/s
5.5 flex: 43-50m/s
5.0 flex: 40-47m/s
This shaft is ideal for professional and top amateur golfers as it maximizes energy transfer and provides excellent control and performance.
The Ultimate PRGR Iron Combo
An "iron combo set" simply refers to a setup that combines different iron models within a single set.
Previously, it was common to "match the same model from 5-iron to PW," but in recent years, among tour professionals, the trend has become to use:
"Easier-to-hit long to mid irons, and short irons focused on workability."
1. Why are "combo sets" popular?
There are two main reasons:
The evolution of ball performance and changes in green conditions.
Increased difficulty of long irons
Modern golf balls have evolved towards reduced spin to increase distance performance.
As a result, with conventional muscle-back (01 series) long irons, even with professional head speeds, it has become increasingly difficult for the ball to get airborne and for insufficient spin to hold the green.
Shift from "distance" to "stopping power"
For professionals, long irons (4-5 iron) are not just about gaining distance.
They are clubs for attacking the pin with a high trajectory and stopping the ball firmly on the green.
Therefore, there's a growing trend to combine long to mid irons with forgiving models that feature thicker soles and hollow structures.
2. Recommended Combos for PRGR?
PRGR's 01 to 02 series are actually very easy to set up as a combo.
Classic Athlete Combo: 01 × 02
4-6 iron: 02 IRON (High trajectory, easy to hit for distance)
7-iron to PW: 01 IRON (Emphasis on workability and feel)
Points:
Since the 7-iron of the 01 (loft 32°) is combined with the 6-iron of the 02 (28°),
the loft progression is natural, and there's little difference in feel, allowing for a seamless combo setup.
